Web designer selection guidelines

Over the past few weeks I have been bothered by discovering that some of my new clients are passing. And sadly, not only cheap ($ 50) websites. I got a new client who is pampering for the service I was doing with other web designers.

In fact the office depot commerce, the barber shop has a big chain that opens across his street from his store. The claim against their fame is a $ 6 haircut. Well, those reading a person who had $ 6 haircut probably got tired of thinking! But after saving the barber (after saving lots of office depot money) reinvest in his business and set up a sign called "We Fix $ 6 Haircuts".

When I talked to one of my new clients, I remembered this commercial by saying to them "We have fixed the website of $ 1,000!" We laughed neither, but in fact, it is not a laugh. First of all, the client paid a further reward! Second, the service was not worth their paid.

I have not done it to high-end designers because customers do not pay about $ 50 for websites designed by freelancers in the US and India. But in that case, we can always come back to the old words. "You get what you pay, but on websites that are over $ 1,000, how do you justify it?

can not.

I will give some guidelines on what to look for when hiring a web designer in this post. You can protect yourself from a $ 6 haircut - I mean a $ 50 website!

1. Do not allow web designers to own their domain names. One of my clients was told I heard that they should not own the domain. My question is, if you want to keep "registered" information private, you can charge a small fee with all registrars at the time of registration, but in order to protect intellectual property rights (IP) You must be a registered owner.

Clients, MICE, and more specifically, I am always a technical contact and the owner is a client. In fact, I recently received a kudo about that from one of my old client IP lawyers. The client has hired an IP lawyer to expand his business and register his content for protection. His lawyer said that "she did it in the right way" and said that there was a good webmaster.

2. Always know your hosting login information. I can not tell you only when the client wants to move to my service, where I am hosted, where I do not know what the login information is. It's your content! Because you own it, you need access to it.

My theory is that some webmasters retain the hostage of the site with purpose, so that clients can not move or change webmasters. Or they may just be protecting their work. I really do not mind why anything, there is no excuse for you NOT You know your login information of your hosting provider.

As God explained to the customer, if God banned, I will hit the truck again and die. How do I move to a new webmaster unless I provide information to them? I already hit the track, so it never happens again, but there is a possibility that things that could potentially make it impossible to serve my clients. A good webmaster will protect not only my own interests but also my own interests.

My client does not want to ruin your code as all changes you desire as part of your webmaster service contract so you can tell them. Selfish, I know, but it is not HTML or PHP programmer. They are doing what they are doing the best and they are doing their business I will do programming as it works best!

3. Always have a current copy of the file on your website. Let's see how many of my clients experienced nightmares ... The first web client I received was introduced to me by students who took my HTML course. His web host has disappeared from the face of the earth. The website disappeared and the server was no longer available on the Internet, where was the person not found? And yes, you guessed it! There is no copy of the website!

Or how about the Webmaster's client suddenly died? No one in the family knew the squat about his business! And yes, there is no copy - the site was still online and the new webmaster was able to copy from there.

4. Determine if a web designer knows something about SEO - Search engine optimization. I am going to write a blog post about my friend's blog on this subject. Because it takes too much time to add it here. However, webmasters do not need to be Google specialists or Bing experts, but you need to know the basics of meta tags and explanations. Here we will leave it for our purposes.

If you are shopping for web designers and webmasters this is my four basic guidelines.

If you have a current webmaster or designer and you do not have a copy of the site, if you do not know your login information or if you are not the owner of the domain!
