A person can inform others to behave on behalf of an agent on a business or legal issue, which is called a legal proxy or attorney. The person issuing the power of attorney is known as the principal and the agent of the principal is known as a lawyer or agent. The lawyer is permitted to sign documents with the name of the principal. If one person fails to function due to some sort of illness and can not sign the check, he / she can request another person to instruct verbally. Institutions such as US banks, hospitals, IRS and others insist on the lawyer's authority in writing to respect the order and usually record the original letter.
